There is Always Movement No Matter How Small

poem astara Artist Duy Huynh
Even when life seems to be stagnant and unmoving, there is always movement happening below the surface.

Art: Duy Huynh

I wrote this poem in a flash. Have you ever had that happen? Where something beautiful feels like it thunderbolts through you? You might even feel a tingle in your body, or your hairs on your arm stand up tall. I saw this artwork by Duy Huynh and felt the poem found its expression visually. Music is more than the sounds you hear streaming or at a concert, it’s also your heartbeat, the whistle of wind at your window, the rustle of leaves beneath your feet. Your life is one big symphony. Even in winter, the garden has much activity beneath the soil. That is its secret. It is never still. It is never dormant. Growth is alive, everywhere. Words shape our reality, but the wordlessness of music? It is our reality.

And stillness is more dynamic, productive, and life-giving than action itself. When we let go into the stillness, I mean really surrender, we eventually discover magic. All that rushing, all that hustle, all the productive striving… it can be let go of. Hard work is fulfillment, but not rooted in fearful effort. Trust the soil. Trust the sky. Trust everything in between. The quiet space is always there between everything, just as movement is the one constant. Let the doing of stillness find you.

There is Always Movement No Matter How Small

by Astara

When drifting along in still currents
I am slowly learning to trust that even when the water seems still,
there is always movement no matter how small.

Music is my tender wordless companion.

Something beautiful is growing,
blossoming behind the visible,
behind closed eyelids,
between seen and unseen.
